Georgia O’Keeffe

Called one of America’s most beloved painters, Georgia O’Keeffe is best known for her depictions of the American Southwest. Born in Wisconsin, she later accepted a teaching position in Texas, where she explored abstract natural forms. The museum began acquiring her work in 1965. This exhibit features Red Cannas, Dark Mesa with Pink Sky, Black Patio Next Door, and more.

Hats in American Art

Hats in American Art is a unique exhibit that focuses on works of art that showcase the many different types of headwear. One of the highlights includes the cowboy hat. Originally created of small mammal fur, it was built to withstand the natural elements. John Stetson invented more stylish and practical designs in 1865. After these fresher designs became readily available, they began to appear both in films and the fashion world.

National Parks from the Amon Carter Museum’s Collection

Take a tour of the country’s national parks through more than 2,000 works of art. One of the destinations includes Big Bend National Park. Found here in Texas, it’s home to over 1,200 plant species, more than 450 bird species, and other wildlife. The museum’s founder was partially responsible for bringing the park to life.
